I haven’t posted in a while. I got a new job that is keeping me busy. It is nice to be back to work full time, especially on all new projects, in a new environment. Now I have 250 self promo posters just sitting in my apartment. hmmm, maybe I could wallpaper something with them?

I have been working very hard lately on my new self promo piece that I will start giving out to studios that I want to work at. As usual, when the work is for yourself, this has dragged out into a very long process with ideas, new ideas, over-thinking things and re-designing things. I hope to have the final piece ready to go tomorrow and get it up on my site sometime this week.
I got the idea for this new piece after seeing a cool old phrenology poster while visiting friends upstate. Hopefully it will give me something to get traction with my job hunt. There are a lot of unemployed designers here in NYC and not a lot of people hiring. Here’s to finally completing a project!

So I’m not sure how long this has been around, but we went upstate this weekend and on the way back passed a Burlington Coat Factory. I have bought a coat there in the past and have no particular feelings for them. They have redesigned their logo since I was last there though and this logo is awful. What does a heart have to do with a coat? I see no connection at all. Had I not known the company, I would have thought it said urlington anyways. Then there is the cooper black or something like it for the typeface. Who is this appealing to? And does that crazy legal disclaimer really need to be locked up with the logo at all times? Yikes.

I have been doing Rosetta Stone for almost 3 weeks now in my effort to learn French. I have wanted to learn French since I was about 10 or 11 but never followed through with it. So far it has been a really fun, cool way to learn a language. After doing it for almost 21 straight days I feel I am picking things up pretty well and more and more can pick out things through my day that I am able to convey in French or English. Tonight on LOST there was a group of Frenchies and I was able to decipher key words and phrases throughout their lines, which was pretty exciting. My end goal after all this is to go to either Paris or Montreal and speak it for a week or so. C’est Bon!

I have been very addicted lately to Netflix streaming over the Xbox 360. I have watched a lot of movies that had been on my queue for ages as well as some I just stumbled upon. A couple of standouts are some British indie movies “Cashback” and “This is England”. Both were very compelling and a total departure from your typical Hollywood fare. I plan to keep watching movies for the rest of my break. It is a great way to catch some forgotten movies that deserve some attention.

Here I am writing this from the moving truck Sal and I are driving from San Francisco to New York City. We are now on the middle of the Arizona desert driving to eat dinner in Albuquerque. San Francisco was a very beautiful city and I would like to go back with Starla and spend more time there. We saw all the highlights in a quick two day adventure that included Alcatraz, a cable car ride, the marin headlands and more. There are pics on my flickr, but of course I can’t copy and paste a URL from my iPhone.
California is a ridiculously big state and it took the entire day to get out of it. Day one highlights include stopping at Mission San Juan Bautista about an hour south of sf to see where several pivotol scenes from Vertigo were filmed and taking a short detour to drive on and take pictures on Route 66. Today so far we have driven through beautiful Jerome and Sedona before going up to see the Grand Canyon.
I will post more the further I get.

Next weekend I will be making my first trip to San Francisco. My good friend Sal, is finally coming to his senses and moving back to nyc so I am going to fly out and help him move. That will involve a few days in sf followed by a cross country road trip in a rented moving truck. I’m pretty excited about the whole thing and it should be good times. I will post from the more interesting places we stop along the way.

Well I ended my really quick trip to Denver. It was nice to get away for a while and get back to the old hood. Things went very well and I got to visit some old haunts from college. Of course my main reason for going back was to see the Broncos/Jaguars game at Mile High (Invesco Field). My mom and I went to the game alone and my dad and sister stayed behind in Colorado Springs. The game itself was pretty sloppy, but still entertaining with the Broncos eventually losing 24-17.
Perhaps the coolest thing was outside the stadium’s light rail station was a guy selling authentic NFL jerseys for a super cheap $60. Now I was really into sports jerseys back in my teenage years before I became too cool and artsy for things like that. Then within the last couple of years my jock side has come back balancing out my artsy side and back came the jerseys as well. So of course I couldn’t resist this deal and I picked up a Bailey one. My mom also bought me a white Cutler authentic for a late 30th birthday present, so I came back with the whole set of colors. Between all of these and my Mets jersey collection its kind of getting out of hand.
