Busy As A Bee

Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Strike. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. No, I can't write. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee. Busy, busy, busy as a bee.

Bootch NYC 2003-2007

We are coming up on the end of an era. Sal will be moving to San Francisco on Tuesday. I guess he would rather take his chances with an earthquake instead of another terrorist attack. I will definitely miss him both at work and around the city. Good Luck Oré.

Back To Civilization

Well, it's been a while since I have written anything. Suzi and I went down to Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas for work. We are starting work on marketing a giant, next to uninhabited island in the Bahamas called Mayaguana and took a trip down to get the feel and scope of everything. In order to get to the island you have to fly to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos and then we took a charter flight in a tiny little old plane over. What we found was a very beautiful and very rough place. There are only 300 inhabitants on the island and they only got electricity 10 years ago, and there are hardly any roads on the majority of the island. So now our client is looking to build some low density resorts and homes there, but they have to start from scratch and import everything to even think of building things. We stayed in the only current hotel on the island which is bare-bones to say the least. Luckily on the way back I had a while to relax on some of Provo's beautiful pristine beaches for a while. Anyway, there are photos of my trip up on my flickr here.

Media Test #1

Well I started playing with the media I want to use on my new posters. These are just test strips I printed at different black levels to see the difference in the texture that comes through. I am using a gel medium to paste down the paper then coming back on top with acrylic paints. Its pretty fun to be working with physical media again, Star helped me out a lot and I took a lot of my techniques from things she has been working on lately. I guess next step will be to get down and start working on the first board at full size. Or maybe I'll just go back and start playing more wii.

Back To Art School

So I have been working on a new set of Beatles posters off and on for a while now. I am looking to take a more hands on execution process after drawing and designing them in Adobe Illustrator. Instead of just getting large scale prints of them, I am looking to project the drawings onto a bigger paper, board, or canvas then paint the colors in. I also want to play with some typography in the background for added texture. The interesting part will be figuring out exactly how to do this and learning some new techniques in the process. I'm still not exactly sure how to make happen what I am thinking, but I will be playing around on my extended holiday. I will post more when I have more, of course.

iPhone Withdrawl

As anyone who knows me knows, I am a gadget guy. Love gadgets, love little electronic things to carry around. Now the mother of all gadgets come out and as a certified gadget geek and apple geek I think I have a responsibility to go get one of these shiny objects to call my own. But alas it is not to be, at least not yet. In addition to being extremely overpriced, I have the bad luck to have made a bone headed decision a year ago to sign a two year contract with Verizon. Now I have a year old Razr that can't make it till 5pm without the battery dying, and have to hack into the phone's system to get the photos on my computer thanks to Verizon's draconian locked system.

I haven't looked at the prices lately for breaking my contract, but I'm sure its a few hundred dollars, which of course my wife would refuse to allow me to do anyway. I should have left Verizon in the first place for having the worst designed logo of any major phone company. Although unfortunately VSA's Cingular logo was shown the door to bring back the mega-brand and newly friendlified at&t globe.
